Categories Overview
The competition will be organized in 5 different categories:
Category A - Mixed Choirs, Male Choirs and Female Choirs
Difficulty level I with compulsory piece
- A1 - Mixed Choirs
- A2 - Male Choirs
- A3 - Female Choirs
Category B - Mixed Choirs, Male Choirs and Female Choirs
Difficulty level II without compulsory piece
- B1 - Mixed Choirs
- B2 - Male Choirs
- B3 - Female Choirs
Category C - Chamber Choirs / Vocal Ensembles
- C1 – Chamber Choirs of equal voices /
Vocal Ensembles of equal voices - C2 – Male Chamber Choirs / Male Vocal Ensembles
- C3 – Female Chamber Choirs / Female Vocal Ensembles
Category G - Youth Choirs without compulsory pieces
- G1 – Children’s Choirs up to 16 years old
- G2 - Youth Choirs with equal voices
(girl's choirs up to 19 years old, male youth choir's up to 25 years old) - G3 - Mixed Youth Choirs
(up to 25 years)
Category S - Sacred Choral Music
open to all genres of choirs
Competition for the Franz Schubert Choir Prize
Among the Category Winners, the jury decides which choirs can participate in the competition for the Franz Schubert Choir Prize.
Programme:
Two freely chosen a cappella pieces which may not be the ones the choir had already performed as category programme. Those two pieces must be confirmed by the artistic committee.
Singing time: The maximum pure singing time is 8 minutes.
Participation in several categories
A choir can participate either in category A or B or C or G.
Additionally the male or female voices of a mixed choir can participate in the corresponding category male (or equal voices) respectively female (or equal voices).
In addition, any choir can participate in category S. It is also possible to participate in category S only.

For organisational reasons we need a separate application form for each category!
