Compulsory pieces for the 7th "IN... CANTO SUL GARDA" - International Choir Competition 2007:
Category F 1-4 - Musica Traditionale – authentic Folksongs
- F1: Mixed Choirs
- F2: Male Choirs
- F3: Female Choirs
- F4: Children and Youth Choirs, of equal and mixed voices
(25 years old and younger)
General conditions of categories F 1-4:
- The number of members of a choir is not limited.
- Age of participants 25 years old and younger only for category F4.
- The number of pieces is not specified.
- Pure singing time 20 minutes.
- Instrumental accompaniment is permitted.
Competition Programme:
Part songs from the country or cultural area of the participants are to be performed in their native language.
Notice:
As the traditional customs of the different cultures vary considerably, we understand by authenticity the practising of customs in the respective cultural areas and not the date of origin of the folksongs.
Category F5 - Folclore Choreographica – Folklore performance
Open to all genres of choirs
General conditions of category F5:
- The number of members of a choir is not limited.
- The number of pieces is not specified.
- Pure singing time 15 minutes.
- Instrumental accompaniment is permitted.
Competition Programme:
The ensembles are to perform a folklore programme typical of their home country, which may include a folk scene or a custom traditional in the country or a scene with a choreography from the daily life in the home country or the cultural area of the participants. The choreography should reflect traditional customs. The main emphasis should be on the vocal part. The singers should wear traditional costumes.
Notice:
Please hand in a short description of the programme in English or German for the jury and as explanation for the audience. Piano accompaniment and traditional instruments are allowed. Instrumental accompaniment can also be via playback.
Category S - Musica Religiosa
- S1: Mixed Choirs
- S2: Male Choirs
- S3: Female Choirs
- S4: Children and Youth Choirs, equal and mixed voices
(25 years old and younger)
General conditions for category S:
- The number of members of a choir is not limited.
- Age of participants 25 years old and younger only for category S4.
- Three songs may be performed.
- Pure singing time 15 minutes.
- One piece with instrumental accompaniment is permitted.
Programme for the categories S1, S2, S3, S4:
Three part songs with religious contents of any denomination and religion may be performed.
- one work by a composer born before 1690
- one work by a composer born after 1690
- one work of the choir’s own choice
Category J - Jazz
For choirs of equal and mixed voices.
General conditions for category J:
- The number of members of a choir is not limited.
- Four songs may be performed.
- Pure singing time 20 minutes.
- Two pieces with instrumental accompaniment are permitted.
- Acoustic amplification of the choir and the instruments is permitted.
Competition Programme:
- one jazz composition in the “Swing”-style
- one Latin-Jazz composition
- one jazz composition of the choir’s own choice
- one jazz composition of the choir’s own choice
Notice:
Accompaniment of a maximum of two compositions by a jazz trio, which has to be provided by the choir, is permitted. Acoustic amplification of the choir and the instruments is permitted. Playback is not allowed. Improvisation by the vocalists is desirable but not compulsory. Instrumental solos have to be kept within limits as just the performance of the choir is evaluated. If the choir needs microphones for soloists or vocal ensembles, please make a note on the registration form.
Category P - Gospel - Pop - Modern
Open to all genres of choirs
- P1: Gospel – Spiritual
(or comparable religious music traditions) - P2: Pop – Modern
(Choral works from the area of modern popular music styles)
General conditions for categories P1-P2:
- The number of members of a choir is not limited.
- Four songs may be performed.
- Pure singing time 15minutes.
- Instrumental accompaniment are permitted.
- Acoustic amplification of the choir and the instruments is permitted.
Competition Programme:
Four pieces of the choir’s own choice.
Notice:
Instrumental accompaniment including electronic instrument is permitted. Acoustic amplification of the choir or instruments is possible. Playback is not allowed. Improvisation by the vocalists is desirable but not compulsory. Instrumental solos have to be kept within limits as just the performance of the choir is evaluated. If the choir needs microphones for soloists or vocal ensembles, please make a note on the registration form.
Participation in several categories of the competition
Participation:
All lay choirs of any kind are entitled to take part provided they observe the number of persons, the scorings and the age limits of the respective category. With the exception of the conductors, its members must be amateurs, e.g. they must not earn their livelihood by professional singing. A choir may perform with several conductors.
Multiple Participation:
When a choir takes part in several categories, then all their titles to be performed in the categories have to be different. Additionally the male or female voices of a mixed choir can participate in the corresponding category male (or equal voices) respectively female (or equal voices).
